Walt Disney World Resorts has announced that it is on the look-out for its first ever ‘Walt Disney World Family’. 

The process, which is only open to UK families, will close on 17 October and requires families to submit an application explaining what makes them unique.

The family will then have their name commemorated on the resort and be used in a new concentrated marketing campaign.

The initiative has been launched following the release of research conducted by Disney into modern families and their holiday habits. It concluded that the typical family holiday of parents and kids is becoming a thing of the past and instead a third of Brits holiday with five or more people while over a quarter of holidays included three or more generations of the same family.

Well-known family commentator, Liz Fraser, said:  “2012 has been the year that GB has bonded. This multi-generational holiday trend is a win-win for everyone.  It fosters a supportive and inclusive environment, meaning everyone has a better time during their ‘down time’. ”

The research also reported a far more inclusive trend amongst Britons travelling abroad, with 28% going on holiday with parents or in-laws, 60% with friends and a third having even taken their ex-partner on a family holiday within the last 12 months.

“Our first ever hunt for a UK family that best represents what Walt Disney World is all about shows just how ‘special’ Great Britain is regarded right now,” said Hugh Wood, vice president and managing director of Disney destinations international. “This new wave of ‘togetherness’ highlighted by our research findings, shows that now more than ever, people are looking for a holiday to cater for the whole family’s needs. Here at Walt Disney World, we know how important it is for families to spend quality time together when they come away, which is why we ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy – from embarking on wild Africa treks through Animal Kingdom and learning to surf at the Typhoon Lagoon to relaxing with a game of golf at one of our five courses or with a spa treatment at our health clubs.”
