Walt Disney World holds ‘Frankenweenie Weekend’ at Downtown Disney

On Sept. 20, Walt Disney World Resort announced a “Frankenweenie Weekend” to promote the upcoming stop-motion animated movie. The three-day celebration of Tim Burton’s work with Disney will offer guests several experiences inspired by the new movie, “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Alice in Wonderland.”

“Frankenweenie Weekend” will take place Sept. 28 – 30 at Downtown Disney West Side, just as Disney’s Halloween season kicks into high gear.

Highlights of the weekend include movie screenings, a “Frankenweenie” picture spot and character meet-and-greets with Jack and Sally from “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

The AMC Downtown Disney 24 movie theatre will offer special 3D screenings of “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Alice in Wonderland.” These showings include a 3D extended preview of “Frankenweenie,” which debuts Oct. 5. Tickets may be purchased for $6.

The films will be screened on the following schedule:

“The Nightmare Before Christmas” at 4:15 p.m. and 8 p.m.
“Alice in Wonderland” at 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
“Frankenweenie” comes alive at Downtown Disney with its New Holland Pet Cemetery picture spot, one of the key locations for the movie. Located between AMC Downtown Disney 24 and Something Silver Boutique, the HGTV-sponsored picture spot features tombstones of beloved turtles, rabbits, cats and dogs. New Holland Pet Cemetery will be open to guests 6 – 11 p.m. during “Frankenweenie Weekend.”

“The Nightmare Before Christmas” fans should note this weekend offers Walt Disney World’s first meet-and-greet with Jack and Sally. The meet-and-greet will be located between AMC Downtown Disney 24 and Harley Davidson, and it will be available 6 – 11 p.m.

“Frankenweenie Weekend” also will offer merchandise and treats inspired by “Frankenweenie” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Merchandise will be available for purchase at D-Street boutique and carts throughout Downtown Disney West Side. Special food and drink, such as as Franken Fusion Lemonade and Frankenweenie hotdogs, will be available for purchase near the New Holland Pet Cemetery picture spot.

"Frankenweenie Weekend" takes place during a busy period for Walt Disney World. The weekend includes Disney's celebration of Epcot's 30th anniversary, the inaugural Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler race weekend and the start of the 2012 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival.
